Does Stress Affect Acne?

Does stress affect acne?

Telling you how to manage your stress would be nonsense. All of us manage it in different ways. For me, my “thing” is spending time with my friends and family, exercising (especially dancing around the house), and being out in my garden. For others, it’s team sports, prayer, meditation, massage, sex, a pet or a hobby.

Physical signs of stress are the warning signs our body provides to remind us to take care of ourselves. These signals may be one or more of the following.

Physical Signs of Stress:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Panic attacks
  • Blurred eyesight or sore eyes
  • Sleeping problems
  • Tiredness
  • Muscle aches
  • Headaches
  • Chest pain
  • High blood pressure
  • Indigestion or heartburn
  • Constipation or diarrhoea
  • Feeling sick, dizzy, or fainting
  • Sudden weight gain or loss
  • Developing rashes or itchy skin
  • Excessive sweating
  • Changes to your menstrual cycle
  • Existing physical health problems getting worse.

Stress can escalate and cause distress and can also devolve into depression and/or anxiety. Please stay away from harmful “stress management strategies” like alcohol and smoking. Find your “thing” and do it. Do it again and do it again. If stress becomes a concern for you, please seek professional help.

Don’t blame yourself or beat yourself up. You are doing your best and skin isn’t everything. ~ Angus, 25
