We all have a story within us that showcases triumph over adversity (maybe more than one right?). But have we all shared the story?

In our new series curated by the up and coming young writer and novelist Amy Riley, we will interview and explore the lives of everyday women with everyday stories of courage, hope, hardship, and heroism that have seldom been celebrated by the wider community.

 These women are people we know, and who wish to share their stories of success in everyday life. Are you ready?

A bit about Amy:

I am A. R. Riley! I’m 22 years old, I live in Brisbane, Australia, my pronouns are she/her, and I am a poet and fantasy writer. I love fantasy, sci-fi, superheroes and dark academia in all shapes and forms. Currently I am writing my fantasy trilogy and accumulating my poetry manuscript. I studied at QUT and graduated with a Bachelor of Creative Writing in 2020.

I enjoy strong tea and strong coffee, I love dogs and cats, and I will try anything at least once.

My only overseas experience has been to Uganda, Africa, however my partner and I are planning to go to Japan, Europe and America.

As someone who struggles daily with anxiety, depression and a mood disorder, mental health is very important to me. This is often reflected in my work. Additionally, the main character of my trilogy was inspired by my depression in my last year of high school, and she has been evolving with me ever since. I often write with themes of belonging, hope, loss, tragedy, mental health, social status, family, and love in all its forms.

I dabble in photography exploring colour, nature and fantasy. I enjoy being in front of the camera too and was an extra in the TV show ‘Harrow‘, as well as several modelling gigs I’ve done over the years.

I hope my work inspires my readers, brings them a sense of nostalgia, joy, hope, excitement, and a whimsy for the worlds I have only had in my mind.
